Apple Prepares for Leadership Shift as Cook Steps Down and Key Executives Take on New Roles

After 15 years at the helm of Apple, Tim Cook is set to step down as CEO on Monday, paving the way for a smooth transition to his successor, John Ternus, the senior vice president of hardware engineering, who will officially assume the role on Tuesday. While Cook will remain engaged to ensure continuity and maintain Apple's strategic direction, notable internal reshuffling is already underway as the company adapts to this transformative change.

Veteran executive Phil Schiller, a long-time member of Apple's inner circle, is relinquishing his responsibilities as head of the App Store and overseer of product launch events. The App Store team will now report to Eddy Cue, the senior vice president of services, while product launch duties will be transferred to Kristin Huguet Quayle, who leads public relations. Schiller, who served as Apple's marketing chief until 2020, is widely regarded as a key figure with deep ties to co-founder Steve Jobs, having returned to work alongside him during Jobs's second tenure as CEO. Known for his strong-willed management style, Schiller was often referred to as "Mini Steve" due to his resemblance to Jobs, and his influence within the company often surpassed his official title, allowing him to weigh in on a broad range of business and product strategies.

According to Bloomberg, Schiller will not be leaving Apple entirely, retaining the honorary title of Apple Fellow, though his role will effectively mark a gradual transition into retirement. In a farewell memo to employees, Cook reflected on the milestone, writing: "I always knew this day would come, but now that it's here, putting these words to paper brings a mix of emotions." Cook is set to take on the role of executive chairman, a position that will still see him actively involved in key aspects of Apple's operations. He added: "I look forward to seeing all of you at Apple Park and around the world in my new capacity."
