Clinical-stage biotechnology company Electra Therapeutics Inc. (ETRA.US) has officially submitted its initial public offering (IPO) paperwork, aiming to ride the wave of this year's robust biotech listing activity to secure fresh capital for its pipeline targeting immune-mediated diseases and cancer.

The San Francisco-based firm revealed in a Friday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that its lead candidate is a monoclonal antibody designed for patients with secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH), a severe hyperinflammatory condition with no broadly approved therapies and extremely low patient survival rates. The filing also indicates the company is running a Phase 2/3 trial of the drug in newly diagnosed patients. The therapy has already received Breakthrough Therapy designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which could expedite its development and review timeline.

According to the disclosure, Electra Therapeutics closed a Series C financing round last October, raising approximately $182.7 million, led by the investment arm of French pharma giant Sanofi (SNY.US), along with OrbiMed Advisors and Redmile Group. As of June 30 of this year, the company held around $97.7 million in cash and cash equivalents.

Aggregated data shows that U.S. biotech and pharmaceutical IPOs have collectively raised $6.8 billion so far this year, boasting an average weighted return of nearly 70%. Among them, hair-loss treatment developer Veradermics Inc. (MANE.US) has surged 476% since its February listing, leading the sector. Analysts Sam Fazeli and Cindy Wu commented that biotech IPOs serve as a barometer for industry health, noting that the average fundraising size for 2026 U.S. biotech IPOs has hit $329 million, the highest since 2018 and well above recent strong years, signaling a powerful year-end rally with total listings potentially reaching 30 for the year.

Leading underwriters for Electra Therapeutics' IPO include Jefferies Financial Group, TD Bank, Evercore Inc., and Cantor Fitzgerald. The company expects its shares to trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol "ETRA."
