Movement Alert|VanEck Semiconductor ETF Declines 3.07% in Regular Trading, Trump Administration Weighs Sweeping New Semiconductor Tariffs

On August 28, VanEck Semiconductor ETF fell 3.07% in regular trading, trading at $556.17/share, with turnover of $1.437 billion.

The decline came as reports emerged that the Trump administration is considering a sweeping new round of semiconductor tariffs. Unlike prior measures limited to specific advanced chips, the proposed framework would dramatically expand the scope of taxable products to include not only semiconductors but also chip-containing end products such as laptops, gaming consoles, and data center servers. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reportedly favors tying tariff relief to foreign companies investing in U.S. chip manufacturing facilities.

Compounding pressure on the sector, Marvell Technology fell over 7% after its quarterly revenue growth of 37% failed to impress Wall Street. The broader semiconductor space also digested NVIDIA post-earnings volatility amid concerns over its Blackwell-to-Rubin architecture transition and questions about sustainable growth at current valuations.

The fund normally invests at least 80% of its total assets in securities that comprise the fund's benchmark index. The index includes common stocks and depositary receipts of U.S. exchange-listed companies in the semiconductor industry.
